Tech-2550: A New Leveling Agent Combining the Benefits of Silicone and Acrylic
Tech-2550 is a new leveling agent developed by Shanghai Taiga Polymer Technology Co., Ltd., blending the advantages of silicone and acrylic polymers.
New Additive
Tech-2550 is a copolymer of silicone and acrylic ester.
Good Compatibility
Additive Dosage: Added based on solid content, calculated as 0.2% of the formula for every 100 parts solid content.
Test Method: Vibration test for 20 minutes. Tech-2550 shows poor compatibility in epoxy and saturated polyester systems but excellent compatibility in acrylic, UV, alkyd, and unsaturated polyester (PE) systems.
Low Foam Stability
Additive Dosage: Added based on solid content, calculated as 0.15% of the formula for every 100 parts solid content.
Test Method: Vibration test for 20 minutes. Tech-2550 exhibits low foam stability in hydroxy-acrylic, alkyd, saturated polyester, and unsaturated polyester systems, while it has higher foam stability in UV and epoxy systems.
Heat Storage Stability
Additive Dosage: 0.3% of the formula.
Test Method: Vibration test for 20 minutes followed by one week in an oven at 50°C. Experiments show that paint containing Tech-2550 retains its compatibility and viscosity after one week of heat storage.
Fast Leveling
Testing System: Two-component automotive clear coat based on hydroxy-acrylic.
Additive Dosage: 0.3% of the formula.
Test Method: Hand-sprayed onto a substrate coated with 1K black primer. Observations under daylight lamp reveal that competitors 358N and 3777 have slower initial leveling, while competitors 333 and Tech-2550 level quickly with no significant difference, and competitor 3600 has intermediate initial leveling speed.
Excellent Leveling
In practical applications, to achieve the best mirror effect, it is often recommended to use non-silicone leveling agents in conjunction with polysiloxanes for optimal leveling. The existing silicone-modified acrylic leveling agents can be used alone to achieve both short-wave and long-wave leveling effects.
Testing System: Two-component automotive clear coat based on hydroxy-acrylic.
Additive Dosage: 0.3% of the formula.
Test Method: Hand-sprayed onto a substrate coated with 1K black primer.
Drying Conditions: Air-dried for 24 hours at room temperature.
Recoatability and Adhesion
Testing System: Saturated polyester + amino baking system.
Additive Dosage: 0.3% of the formula.
Pinhole Prevention
Testing System: Two-component automotive clear coat based on hydroxy-acrylic.
Additive Dosage: Added based on solid content, calculated as 0.25% of the formula for every 100 parts solid content.
Test Method: Applied by brushing onto a substrate treated with anti-oil agent. Images show that the clear coat without the leveling agent has severe pinholes, competitor 333 silicone leveling agent has the best anti-pinholing ability, Tech-2550 has the second-best anti-pinholing ability, slightly better than competitor 3600.
